Developing a hardware device? Pitch your idea at Hardware Challenge 2020 for a chance to compete for $50,000!
The NextCorps Hardware Challenge is a feeder into the national AlphaLab Gear Hardware Cup. Up to 20 teams will be selected to present at NextCorps in Sibley Square to a panel of judges with expertise in energy, medical devices, and consumer products. Three winners will be awarded a cash prize and trophy, and the grand-prize winner will secure a spot at the AlphaLab regional competition in Pittsburgh in February 2020 with all expenses paid.
Hardware Challenge Winners
1st place: $250 | 2nd place: $125 | 3rd place: $75
Hardware Challenge contestants can be at the concept or prototype product stage and must have a hardware device element. Business-to-business and business-to-consumer devices are welcome. The expectation is that devices will be pre-production, though entrepreneurs with products that have been brought to market within the past year can apply.
Applicants will be contacted by NextCorps to discuss your product and determine if participating in the Hardware Challenge is right for you. Contestants are selected at the discretion of NextCorps.

Our first Hardware Challenge in January 2019 brought out several innovators in the region — including Combplex, which went on to become a $250,000 winner at the inaugural Grow-NY competition. Other participants built on the experience to advance in student business pitch competitions at colleges and across the state. This is a great opportunity to practice presenting to the public and to learn from industry experts and peers alike.
Hardware Challenge is free and open to the public! Be there to see promising hardware startups demonstrate their technology, and stick around for networking. More than 60 people attended our first Hardware Challenge in 2019, and our goal is to grow this event each year.
